Welcome to the Pigeon Loft
Perched in an attic space on the canal bank in Hebden Bridge, surrounded by beautiful scenery, our gallery has a hint of a pigeon loft about it, which is partly how it got its name. Inside, you'll find carefully chosen, one-of-a-kind art. We have a real soft spot for the underdogs of the animal world, so you'll spot plenty of pigeons, rats, turkeys and marabou storks on our walls and shelves. They sit alongside paintings, prints, ceramics, bronze sculpture, jewellery and homeware from talented independent makers.
We're Olivia Brown and Andrew Lawes, a husband and wife team and both working artists, our studio is just downstairs, so much of what you see is made right beneath the gallery ( you might smell the smoke infused air on kiln firing days!) . Olivia makes ceramic dogs full of character (you can read more about her work at oliviabrown.co.uk). Andrew creates abstract ceramics inspired by the Japanese aesthetic and heavily influenced by outsider art. The two sides of our work sum up the gallery: playful and characterful on one hand, bold and thoughtful on the other.
Because we're makers ourselves, we know how much heart goes into every piece, so we choose each one by hand and love championing independent artists alongside our own work.
Whether you're hunting for a statement piece, a thoughtful gift or a card with a bit of personality, we hope you'll leave with something (or someone) you love.

MEET DIXIE
Hello, I’m Dixie and my role within the gallery is to make sure canine visitors are well catered for.
I’m a rescue English bull terrier of senior years and a bit of a goofball if I’m being completely honest.
If I can be bothered getting off the sofa I can be seen around the gallery or studio making sure the canine treats are well stocked.
We have an open door policy for our canine friends within the gallery and a warm welcome awaits.
Looking forward to making your aqaintance - I don’t often move till around 3pm each day for a minimal saunter around before I go for a late afternoon nap but I do hope I can catch you on the few occasions I am on my feet - rainy days are definitely out though - I don’t really see the need to venture out on such days.
